Friends, Ponies and Kitties

Next stop- Ocean City MD. We spent a week at Sun Outdoors Ocean City, with our New York Camping friends. This was supposed to be a week of vacation for us but Jay ended up having to work a lot of it. We made the best of it.

We’ve been to this campground before. Pluses- Lots of amenities, and right on the bay. Negatives- the roads in the campground are super tight to get into your site and the pool is really small for the size campground that it is. But this is where our friends are so that was the biggest plus of all.

We had a great dinner at the Assetaeague Crab House. Lots of fun watching Billy tackle shellfish for the first time. We threw some bags at the Tiki Bar and had a great time hanging out on the beach.

While Jay worked I went this the crew to do some crabbing and see the ponies at Assateague. We even got to see some babies. I took way to many pictures of them all.

While we had a fun week with our friends, the whole week was tainted when our cat unexpectedly died on our last night there. To say we were devastated is an understatement. We miss her immensely.

But our friends are the best, and raised amazing kids. They helped us through it all. We’re so glad to have them with us at such a difficult time. We need a re-do to our vacation.

Watermelon and Pickle Shots

We left Lehighton on 7/12 and headed to Millersville, MD. This is one of the closest campgrounds to Carolyn and Mark (my sister and BIL) that we can fit into. There was no wind on Saturday so sailing was out. But we had a great visit. Carolyn stunned the farmers (and Mark) when she demonstrated how to use a broom straw to tell if a watermelon is ripe. “That’s some serious witch craft” was one response. We left the farm and headed to a couple breweries. Mark introduced us to pickle shots. Gotta say it was pretty good. I have the ratios so don’t be surprised if I make up a batch next time we’re together.

We still suck at pictures but at least I got one of us with the pickle shots. Cheers!

Up the creek…

Camryn came for a visit over July 4th. It was really great to see her. We decided to go tubing. When we got there a staff member said “if a storm kicks up, there will be a head wind and you won’t make it back in time. You should kayak instead.” We looked at radar and said “we’re good. No storms coming.” We got to the river and within 10 minutes we knew we were in trouble. The river was completely still! We ended up paddling with our arms and kicking for nearly 2/3 of the trip. We barely made it back in time. 2.5 hours on the river!! I’m never getting on a river again without a paddle!

As Camryn was getting ready to leave we realized, we suck at taking pictures! So we took a quick selfie in the Starbucks parking lot. We’ll try to do better.
